DESIGNER/ARTISAN Kay
Flynn is an accomplished Northwest textile artist.
Her work is featured in private collections throughout
the west, as well as in Ireland and Israel. The trademark
of these pieces is that they are an intrinsic part
of their environment, beautifully understated and subtle.
"My goal is to create weavings
that will mirror and enhance their individual surroundings
and owner. I
want my work to create and complete a unified picture
-- a total feeling. Before I start weaving I take
time to survey the final environment or intended wearer.
I want the piece to fit and complement the effect
that
the architect or designer is creating. My garments
are more than comfortable and functional, I want
the wearer to feel enriched by them as well." Kays
trademark is, "My work never shouts...it whispers."
Kay has owned and operated weaving
studios in Oregon and California. She is an expert
in weaver-controlled
techniques that include open work weaves, pile
techniques, as well as specialized techniques such
as clasped
weft, double weave and transparencies. Kay lives
in Bend,
Oregon.
