FIBER ARTISAN My
mother was an expert knitter and taught knitting. She
taught me to knit when I was very young...probably
about six years old. I can remember making squares
which never turned out square. But Ive never been a
quitter. There are different methods of knitting. I
was taught the European method which is not the method
most people use. I "pick" and the other way
is to "throw" (Im referring to the yarn.)
I went on to love knitting and made
many garments for friends and family. Then I decided
to open
my own shop
in 1959. It was called "Harriets Yarn Barn" on
El Camino Real in Belmont, California. After a year,
due to personal matters, we closed it and moved to
southern California. I did little knitting for many
years, and then in the mid to late 70s, I spent 2
1/2 years in Tehran, Iran. Left with little to do
in the
evenings, I went back to my old love, (no, not him!)
knitting. I have continued with knitting as one of
the many hobbies I love. Harri (as she is fondly
known to us all) and her husband Wayne, live in Bend,
Oregon.
